Soma Bar-Ins Extensions (w/Hinged Clamps)
The Soma Bar-Ins Extensions offer an alternative, "semi-aero" or "bar-in" hand position for longer rides like for extended touring or endurance gravel rides.
The Soma Bar-Ins are not a fixed one-fit solution. It is allows the user to alter its ergonomics to suit different needs, so you should be willing take a little time to play with placement and fit.
• We sell the clamp set and extensions sets separately, so you can choose one or both extension lengths, without buying the clamps twice.
• Hinged clamp allows installation and removal without taking off levers, tape or grips.
• You can angle them up or down.
• You can also loosen the wedge bolt and rotate the horns to curve up or face each other or whatever you find ergonomic.
• Dimensions:
Short horns: 95mm x 22.2mm OD
Long horns: 150mm x 22.2mm OD
Clamp: 20mm wide, 23.8mm ID, extends horn about 28mm from handlebar
• Clamp set includes shims for fitting to 22.2 OD bars. Fits 23.8mm bars w/o using shims.
Tips:
• The clamp angles the extensions about 25°, which is a slightly higher angle than classic bar ends. If installed on our Dream Riser with 25° backsweep, the extensions would stick straight out. On Dream Riser Lowdown with 20° backsweep, the extensions would angle in 5°.
• Usually people find bar-ins more comfortable with a slight inward angle. This varies with placement, intended use and the individual user.
• Add bar tape for more comfort
• When installing in the "bar-in" (inner bar end)position, you can choose to install these inboard of the shifters or in between the grips and brake lever. Setting up next to the grips can give you an intermediate position where you can have your hand half on the grip and half on the horn. This set-up however is not always possible, if the brake levers have a wide clamp and push the shifters too far inward to reach comfortably. Always prioritize brake lever and shifter reach.
• On the Clarence Bar with the clamps reversed the short horns can form a loop to allow installing accessories like a light or GPS unit
* Soma is not responsible for damage if you clamp these on bars that are too thin/weak or not designed for this application. Do not use on carbon fiber bars. Do not use on sections of a bar that are tapered or do not have perfectly circular cross sections (sections with cable grooves, etc).
